SUNY Adirondack is seeking a Head Coach to lead the Timberwolves Baseball program. Successful applicants will demonstrate an ability to serve as the program leader for baseball as well as an engaged member of the athletics department. This position is responsible for operating a program for student-athletes which includes recruiting, coaching, mentoring, and training athletes who are highly skilled in their sport while pursuing the department’s goals of developing individuals who are athletically, academically, and personally successful.
The successful candidate must possess leadership and management skills that will further establish and develop the baseball program. The incumbent will demonstrate an ability to build a culture of respect, discipline, and ethical standards along with setting an example for their players to uphold. This individual will understand the responsibility of being a representative of not only the baseball program, but also Adirondack Athletics and SUNY Adirondack at large.

Major Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Athletics Director, duties for the Head Baseball Coach will include but are not limited to the following expectations for the supervision and organization of the baseball program:
- Recruitment of in state and out-of-state student athletes as well as advising, retention and counseling of current student athletes with the desired outcome/expectation of fielding a full roster of 32-35 players
- Monitor student athlete attendance in class and study hall as well as grades to ensure their academic success along with remaining compliant with all NJCAA and Region III eligibility policies
- Responsible for designing a community relations plan to ensure players and coaches engage in a minimum of 10 hours of volunteering annually
- Develop a fundraising plan to secure a minimum of twenty thousand dollars annually to bolster program budget
- Plan, supervise, and conduct practices appropriately to prepare for competition
- Coordinate the collection of physical exams, transcripts, releases, waivers and other documents for eligibility purposes prior to the first day of sanctioned practice
- Develop relationships and interact with members of the institution including faculty, staff, and administration in an effort to elevate brand awareness of the department across campus
- Manage budgets and college issued credit card, trip requests, travel preparation and meet necessary deadlines set by the college and/or athletics staff
- Promotion of the program and department to the college, community, region and nation
- Assist with the inventory, maintenance, and returning of all team equipment and gear at the conclusion of the season
- When able, attend all coaches, conference and region meetings related to the sport as well as college meetings and functions scheduled for employees
- Meet deadlines for submitting national, regional, and conference award nominations and voting, as well as, competition results to local media outlets i.e. the Post Star
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule that will include days, evenings, and weekends, as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise assistant coaches, team managers, and student workers
- Assign and designate work accordingly
- Show a commitment to the mentoring and development of program staff
Required Skills
This job requires any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and/or experience as indicated below:
- Demonstrable experience coaching at the professional, college, club, or high school level
- Knowledge of the student-athlete recruitment process
- Must possess valid driver’s license
- Must be personable, approachable, and team-oriented
- Show a commitment to students’ academic success
- Willingness to work on a limited budget
- Excellent communication skills
- Proclivity for attention to detail
- Able to multitask and be proactive
- Knowledge of NJCAA and College rules, policies, and regulations
- Knowledge and understanding of higher education
Educational Requirements
Associates Degree in an appropriate field of study; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Years of Experience
2-4 years of playing and/or previous head coaching experience with a focus on recruiting at the college level
Compensation
The salary for this position is $12,000
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Office, Campus environment. Occasionally lifting 10 – 25 lbs.
