Assistant Director for Rodent Medicine

Job Description

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR RODENT MEDICINE, Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM), will join ten other veterinarians to play a crucial role in delivering the highest standards of animal care, welfare and collaborative research support; be expected to lead the veterinary care program for rodent species, including: gnotobiotic core, transgenic core, import/export, sentinel program, quarantine and rodent advanced technical services, while remaining flexible to provide clinical care and model development support across multiple facilities and species as needed; become an integral part of an established training program for the next generation of comparative medicine professionals; participate in night and weekend on call duties on rotation with other veterinarians; and may pursue collaborative or independent research.   Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree from an American Veterinary Medical Association accredited veterinary school, or equivalent training with Educational Commission Foreign Veterinary Graduates certification; licensed to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state, with the ability to become licensed in Massachusetts; a minimum of 3 years of experience in a laboratory animal care and use program with demonstrated experience in collaborating with researchers; experience with Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee functions or other expertise and interest in the regulations and guidelines that govern animal research; experience working collaboratively with researchers and mentoring students; and ability to work effectively as part of a team is imperative. PREFERRED: formal training in comparative medicine with Diplomate status in the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) or European College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ECLAM); and experience in advising on model selection and protocol development.
