Community Outreach Manager, SKCCC

Job Description

We are seeking a Community Outreach Manager to work under the Associate Director of Community Outreach and Engagement. The Community Outreach Manager is responsible for the development and execution of a community outreach program with the ultimate goal of creating bi-directional communication with the community and the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center (SKCCC). The incumbent is responsible for identifying, promoting and building relationships between the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Centers’ (SKCCC) stakeholders within and outside of Johns Hopkins, including corporate and community entities. The Community Outreach Manager maintains a strong presence for the program’s mission for the public-at-large. The manager’s outreach efforts will focus on engagement within the SKCCC’s catchment area: the state of Maryland. This position will also be responsible for working with the Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) team to plan and execute in-person and virtual events, and may require evening or weekend hours.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Represent Johns Hopkins Institutions, SKCCC and COE to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute a community outreach and education program for SKCCC.
  • Establish partnerships within Johns Hopkins and with corporate and community entities to further program mission and increase the COE’s visibility and community impact.
  • Conceptualize, manage logistics, and execute special events to increase the SKCCC’s visibility.
  • Train and supervise community health educators.
  • Collaborate with COE Leadership and key community members to define goals reflective of SKCCC and community priorities and interests for Community Advisory Board (CAB) and the Baltimore and PG County Community Advisory Group (CAGs).
  • Contribute to planning and assist with coordination of COE special events.
  • Manage agendas and logistics of CAG and CAB meetings.
  • Participate in strategic planning as needed, along with COE leadership.
  • Attend community, local and state meetings.
  • Act as a community coach and teacher.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.


Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong computer and word processing skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Willingness to travel, personal means of transportation, ability to work some weekends and evenings.
  • Successful accomplishment of tasks with high independence and minimal supervision.
  • Outstanding professionalism.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple competing priorities and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to successfully problem-solve challenges as they arise.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills.






Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Five years related work experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in health-related field strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with civic and community organizations and comfortable navigating community settings, attending events and participating in discussions to promote a connected environment.
  • Experience supervising and managing staff and resources in community-based setting.
